Amsterdam in Painterly Tones of Ephemeral Landscapes

At Ottolenghi Amsterdam, we developed a body of custom artwork informed by nature, Dutch landscape traditions, and the ornamental language of Delftware. Set within the Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, the project responds to its location through a painterly sensibility that feels both site-specific and fleeting. Rather than illustrating landscape directly, the works evoke it through tone, rhythm and motif suggesting passing weather, horizons, flora and atmosphere in a more ephemeral register.

Here, the visual language moves between history and immediacy. References to Dutch decorative traditions are present, but lightly held, translated into a contemporary expression that is fluid rather than nostalgic. The result is a series of works that bring a sense of place without becoming literal: painterly surfaces that carry memory, movement and light and that allow Amsterdam to appear less as a fixed image than as a shifting mood.
